Frequently Asked Questions

For more information about ceilidhs, how they work, what events they're suitable for and advice on venues, please see advice on organising a ceilidh.

Do the band provide their own equipment?

For most bookings we will provide our own PA. All equipment is PAT tested and the band have £10m public liability insurance as members of The Musician's Union. All we need is one ordinary 13A socket.

Do the band always come with a caller?

Yes, unless you'd rather provide your own. Our regular caller, Joey, is very experienced at working with many different types of audiences at a wide range of events. However, we're always happy to work with new callers!

How long do you play for?

Normally we're happy to play for ceilidhs for up to four hours, with a break in the middle if its more than two hours or so. It's worth remembering that ceilidhs aren't as intense as other kinds of live music and dance: the dances take time to explain, and people generally want a rest after a couple of dances. This means they last longer! An hour is about the shortest amount of time for which it's worth booking a band.

Can we hear you play before booking?

Please get in touch if you would like to hear and see the band play before booking. Although many of our bookings are private parties, we can often arrange for you to call in on them for a few minutes to see the band in action.

We don't have a published recording: ceilidh dance music is best heard live! The audience (and caller) are an essential part of every ceilidh, and it is therefore impossible to capture the live, spontaenous feel of a ceilidh in a recording.

However, if you're not sure exactly what sort of music we play,
a good example is available here.
